門の屋根をこけら葺きに。本来、こけら葺きは竹釘で固定します。竹釘を打つと雨が降ったときに竹が膨張して、釘穴から水が入らないんです。

Wood shingle on the gate roof. Originally carpenters drive a bamboo nail to install the shingles. When it rains, bamboo absorbs rain and expands, as a result rain does not go throgh the nail hole.

手間と材料がかかるので、大きな面積で使用せずとも、門の屋根や庇など少ない面積で、こういった素晴らしい素材を使いたいもんです。

It costs a lot for labor and material, but you do not have to cover it all of the roof, just for the small area like the gate roof or eaves would be good.
